My husband is my absolute favorite person and is my biggest supporter and fan. We met while I was serving tables in college at a restaurant chain called Macaroni Grill. We were introduced on my first day (which happened to be my 19th birthday) by the woman training me. She turned to me and said, "This is Kyle. Kyle loves the ladies." Then Kyle turned to me with a deepness in his voice and an eyebrow slightly raised and said, "No, the ladies love Kyle." I was seriously considering never speaking to this cocky dude again. I shuffled away quickly and avoided him for the rest of the day. But to my surprise later that week, Kyle walked right up to me and asked me on a date.
"Do you want to grab dinner tonight?" he said confidently. I somewhat rolled my eyes but secretly loved his boldness and replied, "I have a boyfriend." (I really did have a boyfriend who I had been dating for about a year.) "Well, your boyfriend isn't invited." he fired back. I laughed! I couldn't resist his charm and so I went on that date as FRIENDS. I probably stated we were just friends about 10 times during this dinner just to make sure he wasn't getting the wrong idea. But, while I nervously ate my side salad and carried on a conversation, I kinda felt like I was home. He felt safe but exciting, and super easy to talk to. He had a gentle warm touch and insisted I be "treated like a princess." He was genuine and told me his hopes and dreams of a family. I loved the way he laughed and flirted with me. It became VERY obvious to me during that dinner that I was falling for Kyle. I knew I had a boyfriend to break up with.
Kyle came in to work the day after my break-up and without even knowing said, "Did you break up with your boyfriend yet?" From that day forward we were inseparable. I moved into his place 2 weeks later and 12 years later, I'm still by his side.
Shortly after I graduated from Portland State University with my bachelors in Graphic Design, we were blessed with a beautiful baby girl named Mila. Mila was born with jet black, straight hair and somehow morphed into a curly headed blonde. After Mila joined us, I started photographing her every month and posting the photos online for family and friends. Shortly after posting some shots of her, I was contacted by various people asking if I could do photos for their family and then SK Photography was born.
My son Kruse followed a couple years after my daughter and completed our family with his giant smile and even bigger heart. These two kids and their father are always my inspiration and my WHY. I am forever grateful to have such an amazing little family.
It is no secret that I am still waiting on my letter to Hogwarts. I have been obsessed with Harry Potter since I was 12 years old and have been to nearly every book/movie premiere in full potterhead attire. I have been placed in house Gryffindor, and I'm married to a quick witted Ravenclaw.
My Patronus is a wild cat which honestly makes me so nerd happy. I could definitely take on some dementors with a wild cat patronus and feel like a badass. I heard there is a SALMON patronos. LOL! I didn't even know salmon was an option! Just picturing a salmon patronus fighting a dementor is enough to have me in tears laughing. I haven't placed our kids in their houses yet because we are waiting for their 11th birthday, (Yes, I'm that extra about this) but if I had to guess I would say Mila is a Gryffindor and Kruse is a Hufflepuff.
One of the most MAGICAL days of my life was when I got to see "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" in New York with the original London cast. My husband surprised me with tickets for our wedding anniversary and that's when I knew I really did make the best decision of my life marrying him. ;) It was by far the best show I have ever seen and probably ever will see. Forever grateful to my husband for making that happen.
I have been to the The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in California (BUTTERBEER!) but have yet to go to the Florida one. Working on fixing that summer of 2020. If you're a fellow Potterhead, let's nerd out together! If you've never been into Harry Potter and have no idea what I've been talking about...I'm sorry. But at least now you know the level of nerd you're dealing with.
